The village of Saparevo

The village of Saparevo is situated in mountain region, at the foot of the north slopes of Rila Mountain. It is one of the biggest villages in the region, with population more than 1500 people. It is a typical sub-Balkan Bulgarian village. The occupation of its people is connected with the alpine stock-breeding and construction. The Church of the Holy Virgin is situated in Saparevo. It is a reduction of the church in the Rila Monastery. A monument for the perished people during the wars for the Bulgarian unification was built in front of its entrance (1912-1918). Other sights in the surroundings of Saparevo are the chapels St. George, St. Peter and Pavel, St. Elias, etc. There are good conditions for development of the rural tourism in the village, because it is a starting point for many tourist objects in Rila Mountain.
