Uhlovitsa cave

Uhlovitsa cave is located 3 kilometers south from Mogilitsa (village in the Southern Rhodopes next to the border with Greece), in the area called Sinite virove (Blue streams). It is one of the oldest caves in the region and appeals with the beauty of its dendroid forms resembling sea corals. The cave was found in 1967 by Dimitar and Georgi Raychevi. There are 20 caves around the village of Mogilitsa, but Uhlovitsa is the most amazing among them. The cave is partially utilized. In its upper section, visitors can see the so-called Hall of Chasms. The mouths of four deep chasms slope down to the cave’s lower gallery. Using the metal mounted railing, tourists can descend to the lower gallery, which is actually the most fascinating sight in the whole cave. There are seven incredible lakes at the cave’s end. In the spring they are filled with water. In the summer you can enjoy the magnificent view around the biggest lake, because of the stone spurts of the brilliant summer waterfall. The Uhlovitsa cave is settled at 1040 m above sea level, the temperature throughout the whole year is 10-11 degrees. Total gallery length is 460 m, 330 of which are utilized for tours. The pathway leading to the cave’s entrance is another enchanting challenge worth seeing on your way to the enigmatic Uhlovitsa cave.
