Day of the plant-protector

On January 16, the National Service for Plant Protection celebrates its professional day - the Day of the plant-protector. 113 years ago, the 8th Regular Parliament passes Law for the measures against the phylloxera decease and for recuperation of the damaged vineyards. The law, approved with a decree by Prince Ferdinand on January 16, 1896, has officially introduced the plant protection activity in Bulgaria. This day became professional holiday with a decision of CM from September 30, 2005 and was for the first time celebrated on January 16, 2006 in the ceremonial hall of the Agricultural University of Plovdiv. The National Service for Plant Protection was established in its current state with Decree 131 from July 15 of CM, followed by Ordinance of the Minister of agriculture and food industry from October 14, 1992.
