Boyana Waterfall

The Boyana waterfall is located some 4.5 km from the center of Boyana (district of Sofia). It is the most beautiful and biggest waterfall in Vitosha Mountain (surrounding the capital Sofia). The only noise that interrupts the quietness and serenity of the breathtaking scenery is the sound of the waters falling from 15 m. In 1920 the Patriarch of the Bulgarian literature Ivan Vazov wrote travel notes after a trip to the waterfall. In clear days the waterfall may be seen from the center of Sofia. During the snow thawing in Vitosha’s highest parts the Boyana waterfall is most high-water and its turbulent splashes may be distinguished from the forest when watched from the National Palace of Culture in the center of Sofia. The waterfall is easily accessible from the Kopitoto site. Only the last part of the route could be harder to walk, as the path leading to the waterfall is arduous, stony and descends steeply from above down to the waterfall. The other way for reaching the waterfall goes along the Boyana river valley from Boyana district and is longer but easier.
