Maggie Maleeva’s Grand Farewell Show

On April 28, 2006 seven stars of the female tennis will gather in Sofia to play in front of the Bulgarian fans. The reason for the great feast is the official farewell to the professional tennis of one of them – Magdalena Maleeva. After 16 successful seasons in the tennis elite, 10 single victories, and 139 wins in official plays, Maggie has decided to retire from professional sport. Maggie’s sisters Katerina and Manuela, as well as Conchita Martinez, Lizel Huber and Natasha Zvereva are the big names that are to ply in Sofia. Magdalena Maleeva is the youngest of the trio Maleevi Sisters. She started her professional tennis carrier in 1989. The first big success Maggie achieved in San Marino in 1992. The Moscow tournament is doubtless one of Maggie’s biggest victories – she won it three times, the first two times in a row – in 1994 and 1995. The last victory in Moscow was in 2002 when Maggie knocked out Venus Williams, Amelie Mauresmo, and Lindsay Davenport.
