The House of Chorbadji Paskal in Haskovo

One of the sights of the town of Haskovo is the House of Chorbadji Paskal. The story tells that Chorbadji Paskal was a wealthy and influential merchant, who took part in the municipal government during the Bulgarian National Revival. Today his house accommodates the exposition The Town Life after the Liberation. The exhibition in Paskal’s house shows the transition from traditional rural way of life to town lifestyle in the second half of 19 century. Then, the economic progress and the new needs of the wealthier merchants and craftsmen required new decisions on houses’ structure and decoration. Some of the houses were extended in capacity and height. The housing premises were moved to the upper floors and the commercial remained on the ground floor or in separate premises. The internal decoration of the house, typical for the revival period, is quite optimistic and full of life.
