Angel Kanchev

On November 11, 1850 the Bulgarian revolutionary Angel Kanchev was born. During his studies in Belgrade he contacted Levski, and was later appointed assistant of the Apostle of Freedom. When trying to enter Romania Angel Kanchev killed himself (1872) to avoid being captured by the Turks. A few years later, on November 11, 1875 the Bulgarian Revolution Committee was founded in Romania’s town of Gyurgevo by Bulgarian emigrants. During the Committee’s meetings a concrete and detailed plan for new uprising in Bulgaria was made (The April Uprising in 1876). As a result of the adopted decisions the determined apostles started preparing their work in the respective revolution regions. On November 11, the Orthodox Church celebrates the day of St. Minnas, known as a miraculous healer and a brave warrior. Today all people called Minnas, Victor, Victoria, and Vicentius celebrate their name day.
