Presentation of the Lord in the temple

On February 2, the Bulgarian orthodox church celebrates the day on which Jesus Christ was presented in the temple. This is one of the four Christian feasts, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, as well as one of the twelve major feasts through the year. On this day, people commemorate the event, described by the Evangelist Lucas meeting of Jesus by the just man Simeon – one of the seventy translators of the Old Testament from Jewish into Greek language. The legend says that when he reached the words “The Virgin shall conceive and give birth to a Son…”, he thought the words were wrong and decided to change the word “Virgin". However, an angel stopped him telling him what had been written was correct, and that he would not die until he had seen with his own eyes these words come true. This is what happened – Simeon met the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ on the day of Christ’s presentation in the temple.
