The Boatin Reserve

Boatin Reserve is situated below the Tetevenska Baba summit in the Balkan Mountains. It was declared a reserve in 1948. It spreads in the valley of Boatinitsa river, springing out of Baba summit. Nearly all the territory of the reserve is covered with woods. Here, one of the most beautiful and pure beech forests is found, as it is one of the widest protected beech woods in Europe as well. The average age of the trees growing here is 170 to 220 years. The highest beech trees may be seen here – the Boatin beech, reaching a height of up to 40 m. Boatin is inhabited with deer, harts, wild hogs, foxes, etc., but the most interesting fauna’s representative is the brown bear – the biggest beast in Bulgaria.
