Ran Bosilek (September 26 1886 – October 8 1958)

Ran Bosilek is one of the most popular and beloved Bulgarian writers for children. Ran Bosilek is the pen name of Gencho Stanchev Negentzov, born in the town of Gabrovo on September 26, 1886. He graduated the Aprilovska high school and worked as a teacher for a while. He studied for a certain time Slavonic philology in the Sofia University, then graduated Law in Brussels, where he obtained the title doctor. Ran Bosilek is one of the writers that had the rare talent to combine lyrics and prose. His works are distinguished as highly readable, easy to understand, and emotional . His creative works for children, huge in volume, is presented in a number of editions and collections. One of his most popular works is “Patilansko tzarstvo” (“The Kingdom of Patilan”) (1927) – a fascinating story suitable both for children and adults. Ran Bosilek is one of the most famous translators and popularizers of the children classics in Bulgaria.
