Saint Panteleimon

On July 27, the Orthodox Church celebrates the memory of St Martir Martyr and Panteleimon. He lived in the 3rd century and 4th century and was born a pagan named Pantoleon (from Greek: "lion in everything"). He studied medicine at the famous for the time physician - Ephorusin, and became a physician himself. He later adopted Christianity and his new name was Panteleimon ("All-Merciful"). He refused to worship the pagan gods, for which he was crucified by Maximian's command.Part of the saint's relics are kept in the Russian Monastery of Saint Panteleimon in Mount Athos. Because of his lifetime it is believed that Saint Panteleimon is a protector of doctors and pharmacists. The saint is a patron of the Vidin saint Metropolis and the Old Vidin. This church celebration date is also called Panteley Passenger. The addition to the name is based on the folk interpretation of the name "Panteleimon". It is a Greek name, and the first Christian Slavs were not understood. The Bulgarian has linked him with a "path", from where comes the expression "Panteley-traveler". One of the most widespread beliefs associated with this day is that of St. Pantellean swallows and storks fly to the warm countries or "gather to travel." Close to this is the belief that this day is fortunate for travel: anyone who has to travel far, is advised to depart on the day of St. Panteley, so that the trip goes well.
