100 years since the June 9 coup in 1923.

The Coup of June 9th is a state coup in Bulgaria, which was carried out on the night 8 to 9 June 1923 by Army troops under the leadership of the Military Union, which helps take down the government of the Bulgarian Agricultural People's Union (BAPU), governed by Alexander Stamboliiski. The newly formed government was headed by Alexander Tsankov and included representatives from all opposition parties except the Communists. In the preparation of the coup, the People's Assembly also participated, and subsequently received the support of most opposition forces, excluding the second largest parliamentary party - the Bulgarian Communist Party (BCP). At the congress at the end of 1922, the Military Union took a decision to remove the Stamboliyski government by a coup. In April 1923, BAPU won the early parliamentary elections, receiving 52% of votes and 212 out of 245 seats in parliament. At the same time, the party is falling into increasingly difficult political isolation, confronting the traditional parties of the Constitutional Bloc, many of whose leaders are in prison; with the BCP, which considers the government to be its chief enemy and defines it as "fascist"; with the military alliance, which is officially banned, but brings together many active and reserve officers, and the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization (IMRO), which has committed its activity to destroy with the Nis Agreement. Following the constitution of the new parliament in May, the Military Alliance assembles its organizations and conducts meetings of officers in various garrisons, preparing a military coup, with reports leaking out to the press. Contacts with Tsar Boris III and VMRO were established. On 25 May, a coup date was set, detailed plans of the operation were set up, with the allocation of objectives and tasks of individual subdivisions. (Text / Photo: bg.wikipedia.org)
