Pliocene park Dorkovo

The Pliocene park was built near the paleontological field near the village of Dorkovo. There is the largest European gathering of remains of mastodons. An area of about 300 sq. m in the building of Pliocene Park holds an exposition of remains of dinosaurs, saber-toothed tigers, three-toed horses hipparions, primates and other animals that lived millions of years ago. The roof of the facility is made of glass to let in enough light. The building is made of metal, glass and wood, designed by the architect Yavor Yordanov. In the center of the exhibition hall is placed 4-meter mastodon of the kind Anancus Arvernensis. Around it are situated life-size figures of other ancient creatures, whose bones were found near the Elin Kladenets. From France have been brought restored and preserved 4-meter tusks of the mammal from the Pliocene, found near Dorkovo. The exhibition hall is a 10-meter diorama - scale model of the area around the village in the late Pliocene. Dorkovo is located about 100 km from Sofia and 14 km from Velingrad.
