August 18 - Miner's Day

At the suggestion of the Pernik coal miners, King Ferdinand issued a Decree, which determined August 18 - the Day of the Assumption of St. Ivan Rilski, for a day in which the miner's profession is celebrated, as respect and reverence for his work, dedicated entirely to people. By decision of the Council of Ministers from 1996, the day was restored as a professional holiday of miners, geologists and workers from the mineral and raw materials industry.
