One of the Rodopy Mountain phenomenons is the cave Diavolskoto garlo (Devil's Throat cave). It is situated at 1.2 km from the village Trigrad and is formed by powerful tectonic movements. The name of the cave comes from its entrance, which looks like a devil’s head. A river, falling underground from 42 meters of height, forming a large hall called Buchashtata Zala (Roaring Hall), dug the cave. The hall is 110 meters long, 40 meters wide and 35 meters high. The roaring water gurgle and this boiling mass of water jumps through the alternating waterfalls. An artificial gallery 150 meters long is made from the entrance. One can reach the foot of the water stream thanks to this galler. The cave is electricity-supplied and the stairs climbing next to the rumbling water is safeguarded by a concrete parapet. In the past this unique nature phenomenon has inspired a lot of legends. One of them tells us that this is the place where Orpheus descended to the underground kingdome of Hades to save his beloved one - Evredika. Sacrifices have been made in honour of the gods. The cave is open for visit all year. | |||
