The town of Klisura

The town of Klisura is in the Plovdiv region, 25 km of Koprivshtitsa. It is an old craftsman town and a balneological mountain resort. Klisura went down in history with its participation in the April Uprising in 1876. The local people were struggling for their freedom six days, and on the 7th more than 400 of them were killed, all the houses, the two schools and the church were burnt down. The remains of the St. Nikolai Church still remind of these heroic events. The original church bell, proclaiming the uprising of the people of Klisura, and an authentic cherry-tree canon from that time are kept in the Local Historical Museum. Klisura is the birth place of Hristo Danov, Hristo Blaskov, Iliya Blaskov, Marko Balabanov and the revolutionary Nikola Karadzhov. One of the most interesting houses in the town is the Pavurdzhieva House. The only rose-distillery, preserved till today, is in its yard. The Chervenakova House was the first restored house after the burning down the town during the uprising. There is an authentic workshop from the beginning of the XX century on the first floor. The Museum of Potatoes is there as well. Klisura is one of the 100 national tourist attractions.
