Kordopulova House |

Kordopulova house is the biggest house from the Revival period on the Balkans. It was built by the rich family Kordopul from Melnik in 1754. The house is situated among sand screes and in the beautiful nature of Melnik. It is one of the most famous buildings in the town and it has incredible architecture and splendid interior. The house consists of four floors, two of which are built of stones. Seven staircases are the
connection between them. The most interesting room in the house is
the living-room. It is very large and there are 12 windows in North,
South, West and East in it. The ceiling is made of wood. It represents
the Sun with 12 sunbeams – the 12 months of the year. The ground
floor is dug into the rock and thus fantastic labyrinths are formed. The
longest tunnel is 150 meters. In this part of the house are the wine-
cellars, in which the famous Melnik wine was made and kept in the
past. The wine-cellars have capacity of 300 tones and the biggest
barrel takes 12,5 tones.
