Tabahana

The leather processing has been the most the most widely distributed craft in Sevlievo in 18 – 19 centuries and the first quarter of the 20 century. More than 50 tabahana (the workshops where the leather had been processed) have worked. One of them is still preserved today. It is called “Tabahana of Petio Vankov” after the name of its last owner. It has been built in 1873 and restored some hundred years later. In it and in its adjacent yard are exposed the instruments, appliances and utensils that have been used in the craft. In the workshop is also arranged an exposition of photography and documentary materials about that specific craft. The visitors receive a complete impression about the development and the way of work in the “tabakluk” as the popular nomination of the craft goes.
