The founder of the SOS Children's Villages is the Austrian Herman Gmeiner, as he realized his idea after the Second World War. The first SOS Children's Village in Bulgaria was constructed in the town of Triavna in 1993, and later in 1995 was opened the SOS Children's Village in Dren, Radomir municipality. The SOS Children's Village nests physically and mentally steady children at the age of up to 8 years (to the moment of their entrance), who need lasting parents care. The complete orphans are given priority, as well as the blood brothers and sisters. During their stay in the Children’s Village the children go to the closest school or kindergarten along with all the children from common families. The so-called SOS-mothers look after the children in the Village. The SOS Children's Village Dren was built on a site covering 2.8 hectares. The Village has 13 separate houses and capacity of 104 children. The SOS Kindergarten in Dren may welcome 60 children from the SOS Children’s Village, from the village of Dren and the district, in three group rooms. The grown children (14-15 years) continue their education in the closest big town, where they live in SOS community. The association takes care of them until reaching full self-dependence. | |||
