The Bistritsa Monastery St. Petka is located in the Kalugerovi Livadi district on Vitosha, in the northwestern outskirts of the Bistritsa village, and rises some 15 km away from Sofia. The monastery was constructed in 10th century, but like most of the Bulgarian monasteries it was destroyed during the Ottomans’ invasion in 14th century. After the Liberation a small church was constructed here, which existed until 1951. In 1956 was built the nowadays church. Currently the monastery is an active one. Today the monastery complex includes a small church, residential and farm buildings. The St. Ilia is a one-apses, domeless with a narthex and a belfry above. The temple holiday is celebrated on October 14. | |||
