Bulgarian Police Professional holiday

The National Police Service of Bulgaria celebrates today its professional holiday the establishment of the Bulgarian Police. The Bulgarian Police was formed immediately after the Liberation (1878). On July 5, 1879 Prince Alexander Batenberg enacted Edict No 1 by which he appointed the First Bulgarian Government with Todor Burmov for Prime minister. The structure of the Cabinet included the Ministry of Internal Affairs having 6 departments. One of them was the administrative-police department. On December 12, 1889 the first Law on Police entered into force, and was valid for 36 years, as during that time it was amended several times. Since 1925 the 8th of November, the day of St. Archangel Mihail, is celebrated as a patron holiday of the Bulgarian Police.
