Mokresh village

The village of Mokresh is situated in Northwestern Bulgaria close to the town of Lom. The remains found near the village evidence for a live dated back yet to the stone-copper age. The village lies on two green hills, on the two riverbanks of the Komoshtishka Bara river. To south- southeast the village is roundabout by the Dushilnitsa river, which was once use for watering for the cattle. Over the entrance of the church 'St. Nicola' is build in a nice marble stab with an inscription, over which a fabulous relief is carved. It represents Diana hunting. The stab is 150 cm high and 73 cm wide. In the corners of the stab, like a frame, vine leaves and grapes are carved. One of the most popular Mokresh natives is the priest Puncho. He was one of the first to make a copy of the Slav-Bulgarian History, written by Paisii Hilendarski. The village was once known as the Small Paris because of its size and the intelligent people, always dressed fashionable and well educated.
