Balabanova House - Plovdiv

The Balabanova House is a building typical for the National Revival period, constructed in the beginning of the 19th century by Hadji Panayot Lampsha from Plovdiv. He was a rich trader and money-lender. Hadji Panayot was one of the most prominent Plovdiv salesmen from the middle of the 19th century. In the beginning of the 20th century the house had its last owner – Luka Balanabov, the family name of who gave the nowadays popular name of the house. The Balabanova house was destroyed in the 30s of the past century. Thanks to the long-lasted research of the architect Hristo Peev the house of Hadji Lampsha was rebuilt 45 years later at the same place. In 1971 was made the project for the entire rebuild of this Plovdiv attraction. The house has an impressive size – it is constructed on an area of 546 sq.m. The restored house opened doors as a museum exhibition presenting the city live from the past century, as a gallery of arts of the Old Plovdiv association, as a concert hall preferred by notable musicians, and as a place for art meetings and events.
