Boris Hristov

Mr. Boris Hristov – the great basso of 20 th century, was born On May 18, 1914 in Plovdiv . He graduated high school in 1933 and attended the Juridical faculty in Sofia. Then he took part in the exam for Gusla choir. In 1942 he received the king scholarship and he decided to specialize in opera singing in Italy. His teacher there is Mr. Ricardo Stracarri. The opera debut of Mr. Boris Hristov was on March 12, 1946, he sang Kaolin in the opera Bohemi by Puccini in the Municipal theater of Reggio Calabria. Little by little Mr. Hristov became famous and his engagements increased. Then follows a participation in Boris Godunov at Roma, the 9th symphony of Beethoven in Palermo, Aida by Verdi and Manon in Kaliari, Mesia by Hendel in Roma Teatro Argentina. Over the next years Mr. Hristov is one of the most beloved singers on the opera stages in Europe, Southern and Northern America. His repertoire spreads far beyond the opera genre. He also recorded numerous Russian songs – folk songs and songs by Rimski-Korsakov, Chaikovski, Borodin. Except the opera and songs (classic and folk), there is a third stream in the records of Mr. Boris Hristov – church Slav music. These are the unique records of a series of Bulgarian and Russian church Slavic songs, made in October, 1976 and Liturgia domestica by Mr. Alexander Grechaninov, recorded in November, 1979. Both records were made in Alexander Nevski Cathedral and reveal one more time the unique musical features of Mr. Boris Hristov. His last concert was held on June 2, 1986 in the Bulgarian academy in Rome where he sang "Mnogaya leta" by Bortnianski together with the Svetoslav Obretenov choir. He died in 1993 in Rome.
