Bulgarian Army of Volunteers Park in Stara Zagora

The Bulgarian Army of Volunteers Park is located in the eastern part of the city of Stara Zagora, and spreads on an area of 1400 decares. In September 1875 here was the meeting center of the Stara Zagora rebels, and during the Liberation War the park was a command center of the battle for Stara Zagora (July 19-31, 1877). The Protectors of Stara Zagora of 1877 memorial complex rises up in the park. The monument was made by the sculptures Krum Damyanov and Bozhidar Kozarev and immortalizes the maiden battle of the Bulgarian Army of Volunteers, as well as the Samara flag and the heroism of the Russians and Bulgarians during the defense of Stara Zagora on July 31, 1877. The Protectors of Stara Zagora memorial complex was officially opened on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the battles for Stara Zagora on July 30, 1977. It represents the eternal gratitude and the living memory of the Bulgarians.
