The Gorna Banya monastery Sts. Cyril and Methodius is located some 3 km away from the Sofia district Gorna Banya, in the Lyulin Mountain. It was founded in 13th century. In the past it was called St. Kral (King). It includes a basilica with one apse and no dome, and an auxiliary building. It is believed that the monastery was settled by the Serbia king Stefan Urosh. It was a short time when the remains of Stefan Urosh were kept in the monastery. In 18th century the monastery was ruined down and later restored in 1875. After burning down it was restored for a second time in 1972. Now the monastery is declared a monument of culture. | |||
