On July 18 the town of Levski celebrates its public holiday. The town dates back to the Ottoman yoke times, and was known as the small village of Karaach (Black elm-tree). In 1897 the village was named after the Apostle of Freedom- Levski. On August 3, 1945 it became the first Bulgarian village to be declared a town after the year of 1944. By a decision of the Municipal Council from 1992 the birthday of the Apostle of Freedom Vasil Levski is declared public holiday of the town. Not long ago a team of archeologists found in the district remains of a Thracian settlement dated to 5th century BC. The settlement spreads on an area of 25 decares. The remains are unique as it was the first time when a building elder than 3000 years covered with roof-tiles decorated as Ancient-Greek pottery was founded. | |||
