Novo Selo monastery Holy Trinity

The Holy Trinity cloister is a comparatively small monastery, nestling in Novo Selo – district of the town of Apriltsi. The heroic story of the monastery started in May 1876. The detachment of Tsanko Dyustabanov that started from the Sokolski monastery reached the Holy Trinity cloister during the April Uprising. The entire district was already up in arms. The rebels faced furious battles with the Ottoman posses. On May 7 the battle lasted four hours. The rebels gained the victory. New volunteers from Novo Selo joined the band. On May 9 the bashi-bazouk and the Circassians were helped by the Pleven military chief. The Ottomans defeated the rebels and ruined down Novo Selo and the monastery. The present monastery was built after the Liberation in 1878. The basilica and the monastery premises are covered with plates.
