Fotinovo Village

The village of Fotinovo is situated in the northwest Rhodope Mountains, east of the peak Batashki Snezhnik. It lies 1100 m above sea level, on both banks of the Fotinska River, about 10 km from Nova Mahala and 24 km from Batak. The village of Foten was first mentioned as Bulgarian village in written sources dated to the end of the 16th century. Within the borders of the village a number of bridges that span the Fotinska River and date back to the middle ages are situated. There is an old water powered mill in the center, as well as a mosque from the end of the 17th century, and the church “The Assumption”. Again in the center of village the Municipality, the school, the cultural center, and the library raise. The Fotinovo Waterfalls, a natural attraction, are about 3 km from the village. It is declared a protected area and includes 12.10 hectares. Bothering wild animals and taking away their eggs or offspring, as well as destroying their nests and dens, is prohibited.
