Bulgaria’s First Igloo Building Event

The hut Chakar Voivoda in the Rila Mountain (near the Borovets resort) hosted the first event in igloo building in Bulgaria, which took place on March 18, 2006. The hosts of the event were a team of www.planinari.org, helped by the hut keepers from Chakar Voivoda. The aim of the contest was to prepare the participants to cope with extreme winter conditions in the mountain, in a way to survive during the night. Six teams with a total of 31 competitors took part in the building contest. The organizers of the event presented the rules and showed basic technology by building a training igloo. The winners from the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics (FMI) showed quite good construction skills and teamwork, and they their prize was well deserved. Igloo building proved to be an excellent way for team building. All participants and the audience will remember the extraordinary experience, the new construction abilities, and of course, a lot of new friends. For the next few weeks in a row the igloo-town of 7 igloos and 2 snow caves will attract visitors at the Chakar Voivoda hut, and the hosts promised to make the igloo-building competition an annual tradition.
