The monastery is situated near the Nishava River, southwestern of the town of Godech, close to the Razboishte village. There is evidence about the monastery’s existence as early as the 4th century AD. Back then the site where the rocky church now rises was used by a Christian ruler to conceal from the Byzantine army. According to the legend St. Sava stayed here for 40 days. On his way to Jerusalem he stopped here during the Long Lent. People believe that since St. Sava’s stay here the water springing out of the rock is healing. During the Ottoman Yoke the monastery accommodated the Apostle of Freedom Levski. The monastery was burned down many times. At the beginning of 20th century it was uninhabited. In 1947 three nuns came here and gradually restored the monastery, constructed new buildings and reconstructed and expanded the rocky church. | |||
