Giordano Bruno Planetarium in Dimitrovgrad

The construction of the Dimitrovgrad-based People’s Astronomical Observation and Planetarium Giordano Bruno started in 1959, and the official opening was held in 1962. The designer of the building was the architect Milko Milanov, and the first director – Mr. Angel Andonov. The Giordano Bruno complex has 3 main buildings and 2 additional premises. The entire area of the land plot is 8,000 sq.m, and the buildings are spread over 404 sq.m. The most attractive is the astral hall. It has a diameter of 8 meters and a capacity of 48 seats. On the dome-like screen the astral sky is shown too much alike to the real one. The projector has variety of technical opportunities. It could show the astral sky for each day and hour of the year at different latitudes, the movement of the Sun, the Moon, the planets Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn, etc.
