Maria Neikova

Maria Neikova – one of the most beloved Bulgarian singers and composers, was born on December 21, 1945 in Plovdiv. She graduated at the Pop Singers Schools. She wrote her first song in the age of 15. Her professional singer career started 1969 when she and Misho Belchev won the big prize at the Golden Orpheus festival for performing the song the Zakasneli sreshti (Belated meetings). Two years later Maria Neikova survived a furious air crash in which died Pasha Hristova and many people else. Despite the hard recuperation she wrote many and many hits for the Bulgarian singers, some of which are Svetat e za dvama (The World is for Two) for Orlin Goranov, Mila mamo (Dear Mom) for Rossi Kirilova, and Dali si razbrala (Have You Understood) for Georgi Hristov. But the biggest success was reached in 1972 when Maria Neikova wrote and sang the theme Dvama (Two) for the film Koziat rog, presented in more than 100 countries. Dvama became one of the emblematic and ever songs of the Bulgarian music. As Maria Neikova said: Dvama is so inside the people. She wrote more than 200 songs. Maria Neikova died suddenly on August 1, 2002.
