Paroria Protected Area – Strandja Mountain

The protected area Paroria is situated between the villages of Kalovo and Zabernovo, in the valley of the rivers Zaberska and Kazanski Dol. It was declared protected area in order to preserve the virgin nature, combined with many historical and cultural monuments. The most interesting, thickest and probably oldest tree in Strandja – the 1000-year-old oak , declared a century-old-tree, is located here. The area is also the home of the St. Petka chapel, which is thought to have been built in the place of the famous Sinait monastery in Medieval Paroria – the place, in which the great St. Grigorii Sinait established a real “intellectual workshop”.
