Kamenska Barchina – Strandja mountain

The Kamenska Barchina region is the highest point of the Strandja mountain. A Thracian stone sanctuary has been discovered here, dedicated to the god of sun - Helios. Scientists believe that the sanctuary was built sometime between 1000 and 1500 BC. One of the most popular attractions are the so-called “solar circles” cut into the stones. Specialists believe they are related with the cult to the Sun and god Apolon. A unique rock complex with interesting formations and rare for the region of Strandja conglomerate rocks could be seen here. One of these rocks is shaped like a mushroom, therefore it is called “The Stone Mushroom”. In its bottom, there is a narrow cleft, called “provivalo”. People believe that those who manage to go through the cleft will be healthy all year round.
