Pomorie Salt Lake

The Pomorie salt lake is the most northern of the Bourgas lakes. It represents a super-salty lagoon of natural origin and is located in direct proximity to the town of Pomorie, occupying a territory of 850 ha. The southern part of the lake is used for healing mud extraction, while the northern is a famous salt-production center. The high saltiness of the lake waters predetermines the existence of specific plant and animal species around these places. The most valuable asset of the Pomorie salt lake, however, is the rich variety of bird species here. The existence of 215 bird species in the area of the lake has been proved, where 4 of these species are in the world book of endangered species. The lake is also a paradise for golden eyes and a winter camp of world importance for the mute swan.
