The unique Preslav Gold Treasure was found in 1978 by chance during agricultural works in the region of Kastana, near the ancient town of Veliki Preslav. It is the biggest medieval find of adornments in Europe. It consists of 170 golden, silver and bronze objects, decorated with cellular enamel, gems and pearls. The careful analyisis of the find
proved its mixed character – it includes lady’s adornments from X
century, made in Constantinople and Preslav, as well as artifacts of
earlier dating (III – VII century). The treasure is made of golden tiles
and images of antique griffons. A part of the Preslav treasure is a two-
faced necklace, made in the end of IX – beginning of X century. The
treasure is exhibited in the National historical and archeological
museum Veliki Preslav, located on the ruins of the old Bulgarian capital
of Veliki Preslav. | |||
