The historical-archeological preserve Sborianovo |
 |
The historical-archeological reserve Sborianovo is situated in a
phenomenally picturesque region, between the villages of Malak
Porovetz and Sveshtati, near the town of Isperih, in the canyon
Krapinetz and on the hills surrounding it. The preserve includes 5 big
necropolis with 120 barrows, a fortified town center, and 2 cult
complexes. The first traces of human life here are dated back to the
end of the Stone and the beginning of the Copper-Stone Age. When
the Thracian Geti tribes settled here the region of Sborianovo
became an important political, cultural and religious center. Back
then a town was built here, occupying an area of more than 100
decares, surrounded by a 4-m thick double tower wall with
assumptive height of 10-12m. Eastward and northward of the town 2
large necropolis are situated – the last home of the noble geti.
Because of its remarkable architecture and picturesque decoration,
the Sveshtari Tomb has been included in Unesco's World Heritage
List. The reserve is a land, which has managed to preserve the
spirit
of the antiquity and traces of Thracians and Romans who once lived
here.
