Cyrillic monument in Antarctica

The Cyrillic monument in Antarctica was founded on the occasion of the national holiday on March 3, 2018, by the Bulgarian polarites. It is made entirely with donations of Bulgarians and Mongolians. It weighs about 100kg, and is two and a half meters high. It is made out of several metal segments on which 12 letters of the alphabet are depicted. Three icons are painted on the letter "Ж" (J) - on St. St. Cyril and Methodius and Sts. Clement. At its base in hermetically sealed steel capsules was placed soil from Varna, Pliska, Preslav, Veliko Tarnovo, Sofia and from the grave of Khan Kubrat in Ukraine. It is situated in close proximity to the Orthodox chapel "St. Ivan Rilski", thus creating a complex of Bulgarian spiritual values on the Ice Continent. Made of aluminum and noble bronze, it is designed to withstand the harsh climatic conditions of the icy continent. The monument is only installed with two bolts in the rocks in order to preserve the unique environment. The idea is realized thanks to the long-standing Bulgarian-Mongol cooperation of Antarctica and personally to the Mongolian ambassador Prof. Lhamsour Duggerjov. Mongolia is the only non-Slavic state that writes in Cyrillic. Such a monument already exists in the Mongolian capital Ulan Bator.(Photo: BNR)
