Alexander Malinov

Alexander Malinov is a Bulgarian politician, born on May 3, 1867 in Pandakli, Bessarabia. After the demise of Petko Karavelov in 1903 he becomes leader of the Democratic party. Malinov is ahead of the Government of the Democratic party (1908 – 1911), when Bulgaria's independency is declared (September 22, 1908) and the changes in the Turnovo Constitution (1911) were conducted, increasing the diplomatic authority of the tsar. At the end of World War I Alexander Malinov runs two coalition governments (1918), which conclude the Thessaloniki truce and brings under control the Soldier revolt. During Alexander Stamboliiski's management he is sent to prison (1922) along with other leaders of the opposition. After the Ninth of June coup he is released and joins the newly created Democratic Accord, but after 1924 he leaves and switches to the opposition. As a leader of the Democratic party Alexander Malinov is among the creators of the coalition People's block, winning the elections in 1931. For a short term he becomes the vice prime minister, but withdraw to become the Chairman of the XXIII Ordinary National Assembly (1931 – 1934). In his new position he becomes Godfather to Maria Louisa. Malinov dies on March 20, 1938 during the election meeting in Sofia. (Source/photo:wikipedia.org)
