The territory of Ardino municipality (in the Rhodopi mountain) is
abundant of places and monuments of historical interest. The antique
road, which was used as early as in the Middle Ages, used to pass by
the river of Arda and through the Xantiiski passage. It used to connect
Thracia with the Aegean Coast. Only 15 km away from the town, in
direct proximity to the village of Dyadovtzi, is situated the Devil’s bridge. It was built in the beginning of the XV century and has survived the inrush of the Arda river waters through the years. It was made from
local stone. Its length is 56 m, width – 3.5 m. It has three arcs, the
central one reaching 12 m in height. It is situated in a picturesque
region and is one of the favourite places of tourist interest in the area.
The peculiar name of the bridge comes from a legend, according to
which only the Devil could cross it.
