St. Reverend Theodosius the Great

On January 11, the Church celebrates St. Reverend Theodosius the Great. He was born in the village of Magarion in Cappadocia. His parents greeted his appearance on the world as a gift of Providence and called hi Theodosius (God-given). In Jerusalem Theodosius was visited by a strong desire to devote himself to the cloistered life. In a cave in Bethlehem desert he became devoted to constant prayer to God and total abstinence. St. Theodosius the Great first introduced dormitory form of monastic feat, and it is called "chief of the dormitory." In 493, the Patriarch of Jerusalem appointed him general Archimandrite of all dormitory monasteries in Palestine, while St. Sava Sanctified was entrusted the supervision of the desert monks. He had monks from different nationalities (Greeks, Georgians, Armenians) and they had separate temples, where every day performed seven-fold prayer rule, according to the statute of the psalmist. For Communion service, however, all gathered in the main Holy Mother Church, where the service was in Greek. St. Theodosius was buried in Bethlehem desert, where he began his asceticism. Today is the name day of all named Theodosius, Theodosia, Bogdan, Bogdan, Bogomil, Dosyo, Dosko, Dochka, Docho.
