Adriana Budevska

Adriana Budevska is a Bulgarian actress, one of the founders of the professional theater in Bulgaria. She was born on December 13, 1878 in Dobrich. She graduated high school in Varna and after a contest, was sent as a scholarship student at the Maly Theatre in Moscow. After completing four years of training she returned to Bulgaria in 1899 and debuted in the role of Vasilisa Melentieva in the eponymous play by Alexander Nikolaevich Ostrovskiy in the capital theatrical group "Tears and Laughter". From 1906 to 1926 she plays only at the National Theatre. Her husband is Hristo Ganchev - one of the founders of the Bulgarian professional theater. In 1926, she was fired and more than 10 years in the prime of creative forces she stands outside the stage. In 1937 she moves to Argentina with her son, and returnes in 1948. On February 20, 1949 the Bulgarian community celebrates with due solemnity her 70th anniversary. Adriana Budevska played with ease world-class roles. She is the first Bulgarian actress who dares to lay uncovered on stage. This happened in January 1921 at the National Theatre. Adriana plays Delilah from the eponymous drama by Vladimir Musakov. She appeared on stage with a stunning transparent suit, with white and black pearls and aquamarines. She died on December 9, 1955 in Sofia. The Theater of Drama in Burgas was named after her.
