Saint Thomas, the Apostle

Holy Apostle Thomas, born in Galilee, is one of the twelve apostles, teachers and followers of Jesus. He was called doubting Thomas, because he did not believe in the resurrection of Christ until he appeared in front of him and touched his wounds. Apostle Thomas preached in Parta, Midia and India. He managed to attract many to the Christian faith. As punishment, he was thrown into prison, into a fiery furnace on hot iron grill, but remained unharmed. He was ordained outside the city to be killed. New believers walked after him in the power of Christian faith. The Apostle blessed them before he died as a martyr, pierced with a spear. His relics were moved to Mesopotamia and miracles happened on his grave. Apostle Thomas was a skilled builder, that is why he is depicted on the icons with mason meter in hand. October 6th is the patronal feast of architects, masons and builders. Today nameday have Thomas, Tomislav, Tomislava, Tommy.
