In 1885 in St. Petersburg was printed the first Bulgarian banknote

The first Bulgarian banknote is printed in St. Petersburg in 1885. The banknote with number 000001 is stored now in the Historical Museum of Gabrovo. The nominal is 20 leva, dimensions - 150 x 97 mm and on it is a watermark of BNB. The face of the note is a brown box on light ocher, and in the left corner depicts the coat of arms. In the years immediately after the liberation of the Bulgarian monetary total chaos reigns. In circulation are different coins - pounds, gold and silver coins from more distant and exotic countries - such as Tunisian, Iranian or Indian, out of circulation even in their own countries. The first state budget in 1879-1880, the financial are composed in French francs. After the enactment of the 1880 next year in the UK in Birmingham, cut off the first Bulgarian copper coins with a face value of 2, 5, 10 stotinki, and a year later in Russia already cut down silver coins of 1 and 2 lev, or the first Bulgarian lev noble content.
