Strupeshki Monastery St. Prophet Ilia

The Strupeshki (Tarzhishki) Monastery St. Prophet Ilia is located some 4.5 km western direction from Strupets village (Vratsa district). Is erects in the northern part of the Gola glava (Bald Head) hill in the Western Pre-Balkan, in a picturesque district at he right riverbank of the Iskar River. There is no data about the year of construction of the old monastery but after Bulgaria was conquered by the Ottomans it was destroyed. Later Dimitar Hadjitoshev rebuilt the church. The monk Paisius from the Glozhene monastery was the one to be the first abbot here. The church was called St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. The monastery has nested the Apostle of Freedom Vasil Levski, as well as Nikola Obretenov. The temple was burned down three times, as in 1972 the bigger part of it was devoured. The room of Vassil Levski was destroyed and then never recovered. Today the monastery is constantly active. The small one-apse basilica is located in the wide yard and is made of stone with dimensions of 4.95 х 7.39 m. In 1991 next to the church was constructed a new temple. https://maps.app.goo.gl/ow6JXVmY4krVuLBZ6
