Stefan Tsanev

Stefan Tsanev was born on August 7, 1936 in the village of Chervena voda, Rousse district. He is one of Bulgaria's most noteworthy writers; an esteemed and productive lyricist, writer, playwright and journalist. He has studied journalism at the University of Sofia and graduated it in 1959. Later he studied drama at the State Cinematography Institute in Moscow in the 1960s. From 1967 to 1984, he worked as a playwright at the "Satir" and "Sofia" theatres. During (1984 – 1991), he has worked at the Plovdiv drama theatre. He writes poems and prose for adults and children. His debut collection of poems Chasove ("Hours"). Later he wrote poem collections like “Compositions” – in 1963, “I Ask” – in 1975, “Requiem” – in 1980, “Lyrics” – in 1983, “Poems” – in 1984, “Celestial Adventures” – in 1986, “The Season of Illusions” /love poems/– in 1988, “Save our Souls” – in 1992. He also wrote some stageplays like “The Case against the Bogomils” – in 1969, “Socrates’s last Night” – in 1986, “Levski’s Secret Dinner” – in 1987 etc.
