Emilian Stanev

Emilian Stanev (the pen name of Nikola Stoyanov Stanev) is a world famous Bulgarian past master of short story. He was born on February 28, 1907 in Veliko Tarnovo. Later his family moved to the town of Elena. The writer studied Finance and credit at the Sofia Free University. He worked as an officer at the Sofia municipality, and afterward as a manager of a shooting near the town of Lovech. In 1931 he started publishing his works. Some of his most notable works are Primamlivite blyasatzi (Alluring Glitters), Valchi noshti (Wolf's Nights), V tiha nosht (In Silent Night), Tarnovskata tsaritsa (The Queen of Tarnovo), as his most remarkable book is maybe Kradetsat na praskovi (The Peach Thief). The unforgettable Bulgarian actress Nevena Kokanova starred as Elisaveta in the book’s screening. Emilian Stanev is author of ever so many children and youth books – Lakomoto meche (The Glutton Bear Whelp), Chernishka, etc. He died on March 15, 1979 in Sofia.
