Day of the Bulgarian Diplomatic Service

The Day of the Bulgarian Diplomatic Service was promulgated by resolution of the minister of foreign affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria dated 21 July 1999. On 5 July 1879, prince Alexander issued an edict, appointing the first Bulgarian Government in the Third Bulgarian Kingdom. Mr. Marko Balabanov was appointed in the position of minister of foreign affairs and religion. Twelve days later, through another edict of the prince the tasks and structures of the institution were defined. On 19 July, the first three Bulgarian diplomats were nominated – Dragan Tzankov – in Turkey, Evlogi Georgiev – in Romania, and Dimitar Kirovich – in Belgrade.
