Stoyan Mihailovski

Stoyan Mihailovski was born on January 19 1856 in the town of Elena. He is one of the most prominent Bulgarian writers, master of the fable and the epigram. He is the heir of an old, highly educated family – his father was the famous Revival writer, publicist and social figure Nikola Mihailovski, his uncle was another great figure from the National Revival period – Ilarion Makariopolski. Stoyan Mihailovski began his literary career in 1872. He wrote mostly fables, epigrams, aphorisms, parodies, narrative poems and dramas. His fables (“Eagle and Snail”, “Owl and Firefly”, “Axe and Pick”) are classical samples of the Bulgarian literature. He is the author of one of the brightest hymns of Bulgarian education and culture – the hymn of the brothers Cyril and Methodius.
